La Cage aux oiseaux (The bird's cage) in Montjoi is our local cantine. On Sundays, when we feel like eating out, a simple phone call to book a table and we know we will have a great day. The dog is always welcome and there is room for her, which is a bonus.
We particularly like this place because it hits the mark. No ostentatious extravaganza here. Everything is just right and done well.
First, the village of Montjoi, that you reach after a nice drive through the Pays de Serre hills from all directions. Montjoi is a lovely village, easy to get to, easy to park, well maintained streets.
The restaurant's decoration is simple and chic, based on a beautiful and well executed renovation.
The menu changes regularly and offers a choice of three dishes for entree, main and dessert. Dishes are a mix of traditions and modernity with a hint of world spices for our greatest pleasure.There is always a local ingredient apéritif with a few hors d'oeuvres.
The whole place is calm and something magical happens - every time we hear great conversations and see smiles on all faces all around the restaurant. In winter, we mostly see aficionados, and we are about to qualify as such ourselves.
This is definitely is little black book address, handled by a generous couple who loves to share their savoir-faire.
